Rotary is Community Development
Contributed by: DR. SEAN REIF D.C. on 6/4/2008

Rotary has organized processes which deal comprehensively with the community in its entirety, with all the various functions of the community life as part of the whole community. Rotary could be thought of as Community development.

Rotarians acquire skills, attitudes, and concepts required for our democratic participation in the effective solution of community problems, in order of priority. We execute plans with a reliance upon community human resources. This is a process by which the efforts of the people ourselves are united with those of government authority to improve the economic, social and cultural conditions of the community. "We shape the places and they shape us."

Rotary is a movement to promote better living for the whole community with the active participation and initiatives of the community. We as professionally trained personnel must have defined roles in community action and membership in the Thornton - Northglenn Rotary Club is one of those roles.

We meet on Tuesdays at 12:10 at the Radisson Graystone Castle on the Northeast section of 120 th Avenue & I-25 for interesting speakers, a great lunch, connect with life-long professional friends, and do some great community projects that have demonstrable outcomes with real people. We are the people that Make Dreams Real.

It is a wonderful feeling to be proud of something. In the past couple of days, I’ve seen some happy smiles as you show pictures of your families and grandchildren. You look at your family and you are proud of their achievements. You are proud of your business or profession, and your homeland or your city. You are proud when your nation’s flag was presented in the flag ceremony. When you are proud, you want to share that pride with others. It is hared to describe the feeling of “pride.” There is something dignified, respectable, and satisfying in showing honest pride. That is the pride I think for a few minutes about the pride we find in Rotary.
