Pulling a rabbit out of a MAC
Contributed by: John Eisel/YourHub.com on 3/3/2008

A design by Thornton graphic designers Cory and Craig Whitlock of Mongoose Graphics was picked by South Dakota State University to be its new athletic logo.

The South Dakota natives had heard about the contest for the new logo from friends and family living in the area and decided to make a try at it.

Their problem: How to make SDSU's mascot - the Jackrabbit - resemble strength, power and confidence?

"It's just a funny-shaped little animal," said Craig, 34, a CU graduate.

The brothers sent in their favorite entry in June, and a few months later SDSU officials contacted them. Not only had they liked their rendition the best, they wanted the two to expand on their concept for a variety of images.

The brothers were facing a wary fanbase who were very attached to the logo they were using.

"No one wanted this," said Cory, a University of Northern Colorado graduate. "They all wanted the Bugs Bunny logo."

The logo was officially unveiled Feb. 19, and response has been generally positive.

"Even the folks who were dead-set against it have been really favorable," Craig said.
