How to save money on your home improvement project
Contributed by: Andrea Wilbur on 1/5/2009

If your wallet is begging for a rest after the holiday season, but your New Year's resolution involves fixing up your home, why not learn to do it yourself? Workshop for Women can help you get the home improvement skills you need in an inviting and fun environment. Taking a class will ...

-allow you to get your projects done on your schedule. No more waiting on your significant other or handyman or woman to tackle your project.

-teach you preventative maintenance that can eliminate costly unexpected repairs.

-make shopping at the hardware store enjoyable!

-save you money for years to come.

-demystify your home and its workings!

Workshop for Women founder, Judy Browne, has years of experience working on construction sites and maintaining and improving her own homes. Her courses require no previous home improvement experience and with no more than 6 students per class, they offer plenty of personalized attention and instruction. Courses offered include power tool operation, plumbing basics, dry wall repair, and basic home maintenance. With courses offered in the morning, evening, and on weekends, they are easy to fit into a busy schedule. Finally, when you consider that amount of money these courses can save you over years to come, it is easy to see why Workshop for Women past students consider them a wise investment of time and money.

A Workshop for Women course will immediately begin paying for itself. Consider if you take Judy's drywall repair course - "Finally Fixing that Hole"- you could save up to $100 by repairing that hole in your bedroom wall yourself. Or, maybe you have a leaky faucet? Workshop for Women's plumbing 101 course covers the basics of your home plumbing system. You'll leave the course able to repair and replace a faucet and save as much as $150.

If you've recently purchased a home, you can ensure that you avoid costly bills in the future by properly maintaining it. The Workshop for Women course on Home Maintenance will teach you the basics about the structural, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems of your home. You will leave the course understanding the maintenance tasks that need to be completed in your home and when they should be done.

Along with many other classes, those mentioned above are scheduled for the following dates in January and February:

Finally Fixing that Hole (drywall repair): January 14, January 21, February 7

Do Your Hear Water? (plumbing basics): January 31, February 4, February 11

The Morning After Closing (home maintenance): January 13, January 20, February 7
