Thornton Library of the Rangeview Library District is sponsoring a Young Adult Writing Contest during Teen Read Week October 14th through the 20th.
Anyone in grade 6 - 12 is invited to participate.
Rules and Regulations:
The Library will accept entries for 4 categories:
6 - 8 grade short story (fiction, any genre)
6 - 8 grade poetry (any style)
9 - 12 grade short story (fiction, any genre)
9 - 12 grade poetry (any style)
Short stories must be no longer than 2,500 words and poems must be no longer than 80 lines. (Longer does not mean better!)
All entries must be original works and must not have been published elsewhere.
Each entrant may submit one short story AND one poem.
Each entry must be submitted as a WORD document on a 3.5" diskette or CD. Make sure to label your WORD document AND your diskette or CD with your name. NO handwritten entries will be accepted.
Entries will be judged on creativity, imagination, grammar, and spelling.
Please fill out an entry form with each submission. Submit entry form along with your diskette or CD. Pick up forms at the Thornton Library.
Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each category.
All winning entries will be published in a library booklet to be released by December 2007. These booklets will be sold for a $5 donation. All proceeds will go toward the purchasing of young adult materials in the Thornton Branch Library.
By entering this contest, you are giving permission for the Thornton Library to use your story or poem in the published booklet.
All entries are due during TEEN READ WEEK, Oct. 14 - 20, 2007. The last day for submission will be Oct. 20, 2007.
