My name is
Barbara Koenig
and I am a 1990 grad from Northlenn High School. I am currently an Assistant Principal at Rocky Top Middle School in Adams 12 Five Star Schools. I am proud to say that three of the four administrators for this school all are alumni from Northglenn High School,
Jami Miller
, Principal-(1983), and
Julie Evans
(1993). We often talk about our experiences growing up in the district and are proud to return to this area to work.
I enjoy coaching basketball and spending time with my nephew
Jake
, sister
Krissy
, and my parents,
Nan and Chuck
.
My fondest memory of Adams 12 was the rivalry between Northglenn and Thornton High School in athletics. I enjoyed playing soccer and basketball, and especially being given the opportunity to play football as a place kicker. As the first female to score points in a varsity football game in the state and possibly the country, I felt this opened doors for other young girls to participate in any activity they desired to. Athletics allowed me to attend Division I Universities on basketball scholarships and complete my education.
My most inspirational teacher was my biology teacher from Huron and Northglenn,
Doug Smith
. He inspired me to complete my degree in Biology and was my supervising teacher when I completed my student teaching in 1995. I graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Biological Sciences with a Secondary Education Endorsement. I owe my career to Mr. Smith and am indebted to him for encouraging me to work in such a rewarding and influential field.
I am lucky to return to such a dedicated district as Adams 12 and I inspire some day to be a curricular leader as a principal and complete my career here in the Five Star area. I want to have my own family some day, so they too can experience everything this district and community has to offer. I am lucky to have a job that is my hobby and I am looking forward to 18 more years of service to the community.
