Westminster -- Fifthgraders from Thornton, Northglenn and Westminster will 'dive' in to water education at the annual Water Festival on May 12 at Front Range Community College in Westminster.
The festival is a day of fun and educational workshops featuring active learning and hands-on activities. The workshops are designed to teach students from Thornton, Northglenn, and Westminster schools about water conservation, water chemistry, the water cycle, local water supplies, water treatment, Colorado water law, aquatic wildlife, ecology and more.
Over 1,100 students and teachers are expected to attend, and sixty presenters representing local, state, federal, non-profit, and private businesses have donated their time and energy for this event.
Among the 2006 Water Festival presenters are professionals from Water for People, Butterfly Pavilion, Colorado Division of Wildlife, Colorado State Forest Service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, University of Colorado Science Discovery Program, Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation District, National Theatre for Children, WB2 News, and staff from the sponsoring cities.
The 2006 Water Festival is funded by the cities of Northglenn, Thornton and Westminster and a grant from the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) through the Adams County Cultural Council and the Thornton Arts, Sciences, and Humanities Council.
The Water Festival will take place at Front Range Community College, 3645 W. 112th Ave. in Westminster from 9:30 a.m. to 1p.m.
