SmartCare Family Medical Centers, which operates a walk-in health center within the Thornton Wal-Mart Supercenter at 9901 Grant Street, offers sports physicals, school physicals and vaccinations.
Each physical costs $35 (insurance co-pay accepted). A physical includes the following screenings: Vision, hearing, pulmonary, cardiac, scoliosis, immunization check (records update and administering), height/weight, hernia screening for boys (included with the sports physical).ust like going to a traditional doctor's office, the guest should bring to SmartCare their school physical paperwork and the SmartCare staff will fill it out. SmartCare also provides
all the
vaccines required for school-age children.
State law requires students to have required vaccinations, including three that are new requirements for this school year. Newly required immunizations are: Prevnar/PCV7 (pneumococcal disease) for children in licensed child care through 23 months of age, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis ) for all incoming 6 th and 10 th graders, and a second dose of varicella (chickenpox) for incoming kindergarten students. Students who are not current on immunizations will have two weeks to provide proof of vaccinations or begin the process of obtaining immunization shots or apply for an exemption.
Other school-required vaccines provided at all SmartCare Centers include: hepatitis B, polio, tetanus and measles/mumps/mubella. For college-bound students, SmartCare also provides the meningococcal vaccine. SmartCare Centers are open Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
No appointment is necessary.
