Stargate or Rip-Offgate?
Contributed by: Tracey Fanning on 3/14/2008

I looked into getting my daughter into Stargate. I went online looked up the details only to find out that a public school paid for with my tax dollars wants me to have my child tested for the low,low cost of $300 by only approved people on their list.

Now I thought this was crazy! Paying a fee to get your child a better education that your already paying for? Unless somehow Stargate paid for their new campus without tax payer money.Highly doubtful.

I'm glad Mr.Travis Henry brought this subject up because I have been thinking about how I think Stargate is a rip off and a fraud.I'll give you my reasons why I think this.

I met a woman that lives down the stree. She told me she doesn't like the neighborhood school. I absolutely agree with her. I have been fighting this school ever since my youngest went into kindergarten reading late 1st grade level and was accused by her teacher of being abusive because I allowed my daughter to read anything harder than kindergarten.

I have been through so many nightmares with this school,I am pulling her out and home schooling through the COVA program. If anyone can give me some input on that program I'd appreciate it.

The woman I met down the street said to me her 4th grader is on a waiting list to get into Stargate .I said why? There can't be that many geniuses in this area. Isn't Stargate supposed to be for children who are geniuses? Anyway I asked her daughter who her teacher was at our neighborhood school and how she was doing. This girl had a bad speech impediment and was only bringing C's home on her report card. I asked her why the C's and she said she is having trouble with the curriculum. I'm thinking, HUH?

The school has got the weakest curriculum I have ever seen. I have 2 daughters one in 5th,who is going into The International Baccalaureate Program at Century and a 2nd grader I had to go to the school board to get a harder curriculum for because though the school admitted she was passed the 2nd grade curriculum before stating 2nd grade the refused to skip her. My 2nd grader has harder spelling words than my 5th grader and never misses one.

My question is this:if Stargate is supposed to be for geniuses and very high achievers, how could they possibly say the little girl down the street who can't do a very easy 4th grade curriculum and has a speech problem she should be getting help with get into Stargate? Her mother paid the money.Which I refuse to do on principal. It's a public school!
This leads me to believe Stargate is a rip-off. They don't pass the smell test.
The mother says she is on a waiting list. They just built that huge school and there is a waiting list? Again geniuses are only 2% of the population, surely they all can't be flocking to this area?

Thanks for the insight on how disfunctional Stargate is, Mr.Travis Henry. I think I'll pass on trying to get my genius daughter into Stargate and teach her at home at least for next year. If I need help I can always count on my husband who actually is a genius and he didn't even have to pay to become an instant one.

I went to the website you suggested. It was very interesting .I however am still going to send my daughter to the IB program. Her godparents children went through the program,(three of them) and came out unscathed and able to make their own decisions on what they wanted for their lives. They are strict Catholics and the program did not make them waver from their beliefs and morals.Having a strong homebase is important to any education.Being tuned in to what is going on in your child's school and what is being taught is the key to raising critical thinkers that can decide what is right for them and what is not.I'm raising my children to be leaders not followers.

Please read why IB schools are not what you want for your child's education of knowledge and skills. They are only educating for the new world order, socialism, attitudes, values, and beliefs. Homeschool is best. Read all about IB here: http://www.bowcitizenscoalition.org/bow/
