Energy Star bus visits Shadow Ridge
Contributed by: Adams 12 Five Star Schools on 10/15/2007

The U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR program has put lighting front and center this year kicking off their 8th annual Change a Light, Change the World campaign with a 20-day, 10-city cross country bus tour.

On October 9, the bus rolled into town and stop at Shadow Ridge Middle School, where the ENERGY STAR team met and honored students, teachers and classes, who by changing a light are taking the first step to a more energy efficient future.

WHY: Energy Efficiency
· Because more than 70 percent of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels. Using energy-efficient lighting helps reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, mercury, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide.
· An ENERGY STAR qualified light bulb or fixture can save about $30 or more in electricity costs and prevent more than 400 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime, an equivalent of keeping nearly 200 pounds of coal from being burned
· ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs and fixtures use 75 percent less energy, last up to 10 times longer, and produce about 75 percent less heat than traditional incandescent models
