Shadow Ridge MS visits Tomb of Unknown Soldier
Contributed by: Judy Haberer on 4/25/2006

WASHINGTON D.C. -- Shadow Ridge Middle School in Thornton was awarded an appointment to lay a wreath at the Tomb Of The Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery on their spring break trip in March.

The group of 47 eighth graders and 10 adults spent six days visiting Virginia and Washington D.C. Their itinerary included, among others, the Holocaust Museum, Ford's Theater and Monticello.

One of the high points of the trip occurred on March 31 when four students from Shadow Ridge had the dignified honor to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The four students were selected on the basis of an essay each had written. The winners were Steven Haberer, Hannah Carlson, Pam Hotovec and Andrew Ross.

A great time was had by all, and each came away with a new appreciation of the hard work and the dedication of so many to establish our great nation and the unmeasurable cost of our freedom.
