Thornton High's Hamel earns ROTC scholarship

Chantal M. Hamel, of Northglenn,has received an Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) scholarship for four years to attend the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Scholarships are awarded on a merit system in areas such as academic achievement, extracurricular activities, specific performance or accomplishment, and personal interviews. Scholarship recipients are assigned as members or the ROTC Corps of Cadets.

The scholarship entitlements include tuition and education fees assistance, textbook, supplies and equipment allowances, and a monthly stipend of at least $300 for up to 10 months of each school year at the host college or university.

Upon completing academic requirements and the ROTC program at the host college or university, the student cadet receives a bachelor's degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the Army.

She is the daughter of J. Denis M. Hamel and Jan M. Sidor, both of Northglenn.

Hamel is a 2005 graduate of Thornton High School.
