Coming or going?
Come to the 2 nd annual fall play presented by students at the newest high school in the Adams 12 Five Star Schools-- Mountain Range High School. The play,
Up the Down Staircase, is based on a humorous novel by Bel Kaufman, published in 1965. The setting of the play is an overcrowded New York inner-city high school with broken windows and no supplies.
Rylee Caldwell, a sophomore at Mountain Range, will play the lead role of Sylvia Barrett, an idealistic, first year English teacher at Calvin Coolidge High School, who is trying to handle the chaos. Miss Caldwell's role mirrors the role of the Mountain Range theater director, Jeremy Dennis. Mr. Dennis, an Adams 12 alumni, and rookie teacher at Mountain Range is making his directing debut as a teacher with a cast of twenty five students.
Trevor Coday, junior, plays the role of the vice principal of Calvin Coolidge High School who is in charge of office supplies and discipline. Trevor comes to this role with experience in theater dating back to his elementary school days.
Stuart McPherson, junior, started performing plays in the family basement. His character is the delinquent, Joe Ferone, who gets transformed.
Katie Deuschle, sophomore, "came out of the womb acting." She plays a bookworm student who has a crush on a teacher.
Santana Trujillo, a freshman, applies lip gloss and flips her hair to get in character to play a popular and boy crazy student.
Allyson Snyder, sophomore, plays Charlotte Wolf, the overwhelmed librarian who is at odds with the students who destroy books and "don't care about the printed page."
Mr. Dennis's right hand woman is Domnique Schuetz, sophomore. She is the stage manager of the play and helps "keep kids in line."
Rylee Caldwell's idea for play advertisementis to "write it in the sky." Since the budget won't allow for skywriting, the play information is:
