Seventeen teachers from the Thornton area were honored recently at a Teacher Appreciation event sponsored by the Denver North Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. "A Teacher: Takes a Hand, Touches a Heart, Opens a Mind, Shapes the Future" was the theme of the recent event where graduating seniors honored teachers who have motivated and inspired them during their school years. The beautiful event was eloquently emceed by Councilwoman Rebecca Cavanaugh-Miller who introduced each student as they read heartfelt tributes to their nominated teacher. Students spoke about the difference a special teacher made in their life. Whether recent or as far back as elementary school, these special people had a tremendous impact in their life.
Following the presentations to the teachers, Deborah Capra was the featured guest speaker. Mrs. Capra, formerly the principal at Northglenn High School, spoke about the importance of having an attitude of gratitude. She shared personal stories and examples of gratitude for teachers and others in her life who have been amazing mentors and friends.
We congratulate the following teachers for having such a great impact in the lives of our youth: Jennifer Kaveny, Jared Crump-Bertram, Sheryl Olson, Kathy Davinroy, Mary June, Lindsey Parks, Steve Frazer, Larry Dixon, Adina Felton, Mitch Dean, Peter Black, Mary Lou Keirns, Holly Bishop, Brenna Cer, Kimberly Allen, April Rhodes.
