MUSIC FOR MICAH

ABOUT MICAH DESPLINTER


Micah was born April 13, 2002 to a traumatic birth by uterine rupture, only 3 days before his scheduled c-section. From day one we knew Micah would have cerebral palsy and there would be a long road ahead of us. Over the past 6 years we have done everything in our power to make life as good as it could be for Micah. There have been a lot of hard times, but we try to only remember the wonderful times.

Micah is dependant on his wheelchair and need 1 on 1 care for all his daily living needs. We have become very close with Children's Hospital since we are there pretty much on a weekly basis for appointments. Not only does Micah have all the physical problems that come with cerebral palsy, but also the health issues also. Most of Micah's issues are respiratory related. For that reason we have to be very careful on his exposure to germs. Micah can get the common cold and it can turn into pneumonia very fast and very easy. Micah has even had to be in ICU three times his pneumonias have gotten do bad. One goos thing is that we have all the medical equipment and have learned how to take care of him at home thru most of his bouts of illnesses.

Micah is a kid that loves to get out and enjoy life , but there always seems to be something coming up that keeps us from planning anything, and sometimes it is just finding the energy to do it. I think our family is in desperate need of a normal FAMILY vacation. There is nothing better in life than to see our son light up when he is happy.

One thing we try to do for Micah is provide as much as we can at home for him to enjoy like his swing that is specially designed for special needs children. Unfortunately last year this swing was stolen once in July and then a second time in October. Since the thefts we have not put the swing back up for fear of it getting stolen a third time. We are having extra security measure put in place to prevent that from happening, but with the winter those plans just got put on hold, but now it is getting nice again so we will have the swing up in no time.

All proceeds from this event go twords sending Micah DeSplinter to sunny San Diego Sea World and their swim with a dolphin program.
