MASSAGE ENVY® PREPARES FOR SECOND ANNUAL MASSAGE FOR THE CURE EVENT IN DENVER TO BENEFIT SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE
14 Front Range Clinics to Offer Free One-Hour Massages;
Donations to Benefit Breast Health and Breast Cancer Programs
Massage Envy® Limited, LLC of Colorado, a leading provider of professional, convenient and affordable massages through its membership-based clinics, will sponsor the second annual Massage for the Cure event to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure on Monday, June 9th, 2008.
On that day, all 14 Front Range-area Massage Envy clinics will offer free one-hour therapeutic massages in exchange for donations to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Donations of any amount are suggested and all proceeds raised during the Massage for the Cure event will benefit both Colorado Springs and Denver affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. These donations will be used to support breast cancer research initiatives and local programs focusing on breast health and breast cancer education, screening and treatment.
Massage Envy will begin accepting appointments for Massage for the Cure on Monday, June 2nd, 2008. The one-hour appointments slots will be offered between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, June 9th. It is recommended that those who plan to participate schedule their appointments early. Reservations at any of the 14 Front Range locations can be made by calling 877-330-3689 (ENVY), which will route callers to their clinic of choice. Interested parties can also contact a local Massage Envy clinic directly to schedule an appointment.
Massage Envy will be prepared to accommodate hundreds of massages from its 14 locations on event day as each clinic boasts 9-13 therapy rooms.
In June 2007, the first annual Massage for the Cure event raised $38,543.00, with $34,785.00 being distributed to the Denver Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which was generated from 12 of the Massage Envy locations. An additional $3,758.00 was donated to the Colorado Springs Affiliate, raised from one clinic there.
According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the U.S. during 2008. An estimated 40,480 women will die from breast cancer this year. It is estimated that 1,990 men will be diagnosed and 450 men will die of breast cancer during 2008.
"We are delighted to once again bring the Massage for the Cure fundraising event to Denver. Last year, the community outreach in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was remarkable, and we were extremely pleased with the outpouring of generosity exhibited throughout the Front Range," said Larry Reiff, regional franchise developer for Massage Envy in Colorado.
"In 2007, the event was widely attended with nearly 1,200 massages performed across 13 locations by the approximately 350 therapists who worked that day. This year, we hope to raise even more funds, and now, with two more locations in the mix, this should garner additional support. With only several weeks remaining before event day, we are hoping to spread the word to once again encourage Front Range residents to participate in this critical fight against breast cancer. We hope many people will join us at one of our 14 clinics on June 9th to show their support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure's important initiatives while enjoying a relaxing massage," Reiff explained.
"The dollars raised this year will be earmarked for programs occurring right here across the Front Range and will help those with little or no health insurance access the care and assistance they need during their battle with breast cancer. This event demonstrates a strong partnership between the Massage Envy franchises and Susan G Komen for the Cure and now takes place at various Massage Envy locations nationwide. The fact that it has grown to a national program speaks volumes. We are pleased to once again partner with Massage Envy and very much appreciate the ongoing dedication demonstrated by the company and its generous clients to the organization. The Denver area has traditionally demonstrated a strong commitment in the fight against breast cancer as evidenced by our annual Race for the Cure, which is among the nation's largest. We truly appreciate the assistance of this unselfish and warm community," said Marilyn Saltzman, president of the Denver Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Due to its success, Massage for the Cure has become a national fundraising event. In 2008, in addition to the Denver/Colorado Springs event, 10 other Massage for the Cure events are being held throughout the country including those in Atlanta; Chicago; St. Louis/Columbia, Mo.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Phoenix/Tucson/Flagstaff, Ariz.; Miami; Houston; Seattle/Tacoma; New Jersey (statewide); and North Carolina (statewide). Working in conjunction with numerous local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliates, Massage Envy helped raise nearly $360,000 to date to benefit this vital cause through these various Massage for the Cure events.
Massage Envy Ltd., founded in 2001, is the only nationally franchised massage company in the U.S., focused on providing professional, convenient and affordable massage therapy services through a network of approximately 400 franchised clinics throughout 36 states (as of March 2008).
In Colorado, Massage Envy currently operates 14 locations including those in Highlands Ranch, Broomfield, Centennial (Southglenn), Parker, Denver (one in Tiffany Plaza and one in Cherry Creek North), Boulder, Thornton, Colorado Springs (2), Ft. Collins, Lakewood, Westminster and Aurora (Southlands). Combined, these clinics represent a current membership base of more than 15,000 clients. Collectively, they perform in excess of 22,500 massages per month. Another five clinics are expected to open in 2008, bringing the total to nearly 20.
