Construction is nearing completion for the newest fire station in Adams County. North Washington Fire Department is adding another station, Station 34, to their District. This new station will reside at the site of the original North Washington firehouse built in 1948.
Station 34 will become part of the existing training facility at 901 East 68th Avenue largely in part to the assiduous design and leadership of Chief Jim Notary, Deputy Chief Jim Younger, and Battalion Chief Pat Laurienti. The training facility, however, will continue to operate as it has in the past.
While the addition of this new station does not expand the district boundaries, it does position additional staff and special equipment in a central location. The 100ft ladder truck, as well as, a heavy rescue truck will reside at Station 34. According to Chief Notary, "this new, centrally located station with a fully-staffed technical crew will allow for quicker response times." Facilitating quicker response times is especially important to the heavily mixed-use industrial area that resides within the District.
A win-win for taxpayers, Chief's Notary and Younger sought after and obtained grant monies for the project keeping the burden of funding out of the pockets of District tax-payers. The build-out and staffing of this new addition is being made possible by the State of Colorado Energy Mineral Impact Assistance Program and SAFER grants. Construction costs were capped by re-utilizing existing space and integrating the new living quarters in part of the existing facility on 68th Avenue.
Keeping the department up-to-date with modern equipment and duly trained personnel also helps the District maintain it's ISO Rating of 3. This is important to taxpayers because it lowers insurance premiums.
The addition of Station 34 will strategically place equipment and personnel to better serve the citizens who live, work, and travel throughout the area. The public is invited to preview the new station on Saturday, July 12th during the Open House hosted from 10:00AM until Noon.
