Love birds find happiness out on a limb
Contributed by: Ken Zeitlow on 1/29/2007

In the fall of 1955, I was a sophomore attending Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

The custom at that time was for the freshmen to wear a green beanie and have certain assigned functions to perform during the week. One evening as I was walking up to "Old Main" for dinner, I noticed a girl perched on a lower limb of a tree near the entrance to the building. She was wearing her green beanie, making bird calls and moving her arms as a bird would flap its wings.

Of course I made some comments to her but she never acknowledged me or stopped her ridiculous antics. I told myself that anyone who was crazy enough to do that would be the girl I'd like to spend the rest of my life with.

Later that week I did meet her and we soon started dating. We ended up getting married after finishing our education. This coming Feb. 14, my wife, Gayle, and I will celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary!
