Bringing Plenty of Fun for the Whole Family, Great Prizes and Fine Waivers to Get You Started with a Clean Slate!
Summer fun forecasts indicate that thousands of North Metro families will soon catch the bug - the reading bug, that is. Rangeview Library District (RLD) kicks off its 2008 Summer Reading Programs on Monday, June 2 with programs and prizes galore.
Three coordinated reading programs have been designed to get everyone involved in the fun:
- "Catch the Reading Bug" is for children to age 12
- "Metamorphosis" is for teens
- "Pollinate Your Mind" is for adults
Everyone is invited to register to participate in the program at any of Rangeview's six branch library locations, or the bookmobile. The program provides age-appropriate reading and recreational activities, as well as fabulous incentive prizes for each suggested reading goal completed during the summer. The program continues through August 2.
More than 80 related storytelling, music, craft and animal (many buggy, crawly and/or otherwise creepy) programs will also take place at Rangeview Libraries throughout the summer in Bennett, Brighton, Commerce City, Thornton and Northglenn, as well as the bookmobile. The complete events schedule is available at any Rangeview Branch Library
Special Bonus: Start Summer Reading Fine-Free
Anyone under age 18 who registers for the Summer Reading Programs at Rangeview Libraries between June 2 - 30, will have the opportunity to 'start fresh' and clear their library record of any outstanding fines, fees or lost-item charges. In addition to waiving all fines, the library will also issue replacement library cards free of charge.
The Benefits of Summer Reading
Studies have shown that reading four or five books over the summer months has a significant, positive impact on students' fall reading achievement levels, regardless of what types of books are read. This year, Rangeview Library District's summer reading program hopes to reach 10,000 children and teens to help them achieve demonstrable success in reading and critical thinking by providing a structured, productive and safe learning environment.
"Catch the Reading Bug" is made possible in part by the generosity of the following local sponsors who have partnered with Rangeview Library District to promote summer reading in North Metro communities: Adventure Golf & Raceway, Butterfly Pavilion and Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard.
