Disabled American Veterans' Mobile Service Office to be on Hand at Wall Event
DAV to educate disabled veterans and their families on benefits and services

THORNTON, Colorado - The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation are proud to announce that the DAV's Mobile Service Office will be on site at the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall event. The event will draw thousands of visitors, many of them veterans, and the DAV will be on hand to educate disabled veterans and their families on specific veterans' benefits and services.

The DAV's Mobile Service Office (MSO) Program allows the work of the DAV to extend beyond its offices and deep within the veterans community. The roll-out of DAV's Mobile Service Office (MSO) program in March 2001 was the most extensive outreach effort in the history of the organization. It is an outstanding example of the DAV's foresight and commitment to the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our nation.

The DAV is generously making their Mobile Service Office available at the location of the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall on July 3 rd and July 4 th. The Foundation thanks the DAV for their generous assistance for this event and to the invaluable service they provide to the nation's veterans.

Of all the war memorials, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial - the Wall - arguably invokes the strongest emotional reaction of any and it is the single most visited memorial in the country. The Foundation, working in conjunction with the city of Thornton, has arranged to bring a 3/5 scale version of the memorial to the city from July 3 to July 7, 2008. The Wall will be available for public viewing 24 hours a day on those dates at the multipurpose fields at the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center (11151 Colorado Boulevard, Thornton, CO 80233).

About Disabled American Veterans

With more than 1.2 million members, Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families.

The organization accomplishes this goal by providing free assistance to veterans in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. It is fully funded through its membership dues and public contributions. It is not a government agency and receives no government funds.

The DAV was formed as our country faced the painful effects of World War I. Throughout their 85-year history, DAV has grown and adapted to face the needs of disabled veterans. As a new generation of wartime disabled veterans return from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the DAV is working hard to ensure all veterans are cared for well into the future.

Through a wide network of state-level Departments and local Chapters, DAV extends its mission of hope to communities where disabled veterans and their families live. Its leadership is organized to provide a structure through which these veterans can show their compassion for their fellow veterans.

About the Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation

Founded in 2005, the Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established by citizens of Thornton, Colorado with the sole purpose of building and maintaining a veterans memorial. Our nation's veterans have served and protected the United States for 230 years. They have made sacrifices small and large, all to ensure the freedom of this great nation. A fitting and proper tribute within our city is a small way of showing our appreciation for their service. Privately funded and created, the Foundation endeavors to make this memorial a reality for the city, its citizens and all veterans.

The memorial will pay tribute to all veterans of the past, present and future. Located near the Thornton Recreation Center at 108 th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, the memorial will be centrally located and easily accessible from anywhere in the north metro area. The design, based on a five point star with each point representing each branch of military service, will be over 150 feet in diameter. A pentagon and five-sided obelisk will be in the center of the memorial with individual monuments for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard surrounding it.
