Anythink Thornton closes temporarily for WordThink Conversion

Monday, Nov. 2-Saturday, Nov. 7, Anythink Thornton, located at 8992 Washington Street in Thornton, will be closed as staff converts the collection from the current Dewey Decimal Classification to the district's own WordThink system. Anythink Thornton is the last of Rangeview Library District's legacy branches to be converted to the new word-based system. The two new libraries currently under construction at Huron Street and 120 th Avenue and Holly Street, both also in Thornton, will open with the new system in place.

The WordThink system was generated from a retail-based standard for organizing materials. Similar to what you might see in a bookstore, materials are arranged by simple categories like history and science instead of the old numeric system. Customers already using WordThink at other libraries are delighted at the ease of use of this new system, which is geared more towards browsing and helps customers find exactly what they need quickly and intuitively.

Customers can see the new system in action beginning Monday, Nov. 9. When Anythink Huron Street opens in February 2010, Rangeview Library District will be the first in the country to have converted from Dewey to a word-based system in all its libraries.

Anythink Thornton also has plans in the works for a mini-makeover, scheduled for winter 2010. The library will receive a fresh new look, with new paint, furniture and fixtures to enhance the warm, welcoming environment Anythink libraries are known for.
