Candidate Profile: Ron Kuehn

Age:
66

Family: My wife June, daughters Devrie and Tracy, grandson Brannon (age 13)

Favorite Place to Hang Out: With my 88 year old mother at the assisted living home and playing cards with her. Also I enjoy eating out at different restaurants all over Thornton.

My Interests and Hobbies: I have been a stamp collector since I was 10 years old and still continue with that hobby. Also in recent years, I have been working on our family genealogy.

My Favorite Thing to Cook: Cold cereal and TV dinners (just kidding). I would probably starve if I had to do the cooking although I do enjoy making pumpkin seeds at Halloween and Lace cookies at Christmas.

How I Have Contributed to the Community: As a business owner for 25 years, my wife and I have donated printing to various people and organizations giving free copies to those who we knew could not afford it. We were members of MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years. I have volunteered at North Suburban and now work there part time.I am a member of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), Thornton Police Citizens Academy Alumni Association. Member of ARC of Adams County and active in my church, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, for over 22 years. As the incumbent member I have been active on NLC (National League of Cities), CML (Colorado Municipal League), LGT (Local Government Team) on FasTracks and many other committees serving the interests and concerns of the citizens of Thornton.

What are the Biggest Issues Facing the Community Now: Transportation/Congestion including FasTracks; the "look" of the city which would include things such as landscape, code violations and also our recreational and cultural growth; and creating safe neighborhoods by promoting police and fire protection including more involvement in neighborhood watch programs.

Education:
West High School, 2 years business education at Colorado University.

What I do:

What I like most about living here:
I know the area, I know many people, I like the area, the closeness of my work. How could you not like it here?

Who inspired me: My father and my younger brother had a lot to do with the person I am today. My father taught me family values and to respect one another and to praise the lord as much as possible. My brotherinspired me how to live life to the fullest and to see the best in everyone.
Why I am running:As the incumbent,Ihave many projects that I am involved with that I would like to see finished. My experience these past four years havehelped me understand the workings of the cityfrom boththe citizens and the city governmentspoint of view.
FasTracks and the expansion of the city to the north, are major issues. We need to continue working on the "smart growth" of the city.
