Candidate Profile: Steve Lebsock
Contributed by: Steve Lebsock on 9/21/2007

Name: Steve Lebsock (Current Ward 1 Thornton Council Representative)

Family: Wife Nina. Liam 5 yr. old son. Steve is a fourth generation Native to Colorado.

What I do: Internet Sales Business and current Thornton City Council member Ward 1. U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Graduated from Westminster High School. Earned a B.A. in Sociology from Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Where do you hang out: I enjoy exercising on Niver Creek Trail between I-25 and Huron.

Why I like living here: I have been fortunate to not only represent the people in Ward 1, many of them are my friends also. The sincerity and trust that we share is special and very rewarding to me.

My interests and hobbies: Spending time with my wife Nina and my son Liam. I also enjoy playing with my two dogs Chilly and Zowie in the backyard. Motorcycle riding, exercising on Niver Creek Trail and road trips with my wife are the things I really enjoy also. I also have interests in History and Geneology.

Favority thing to cook. I'm not a very good cook. But, my wife makes great hot wings, smothered burritos, chili rellenos and cabbage burgers.

People who inspired me: People who have overcome great odds to make a difference. I believe it may have been Eleanor Roosevelt who once said "you must do the things you think you cannot do".

How you have contributed to your community: Before serving on council I volunteered at the senior center serving meals. I was also a volunteer for the Agency for a Clean Thornton. I enjoy doing small things to help out the people I serve in the community like shoveling a sidewalk or mowing an elderly constituants yard. During my 4 years on council I have fought for the issues that my constituants care the most about including: Making policy decisions that will help ensure every neighborhood is safe and clean. My constituants know that I will always be there for them. We have been there for eachother.

Biggest issues facing Thornton: 1) Revitalization of Original Thornton and south Thornton. 2)Bring quality jobs that pay a living wage and health insurance to all workers.3)Continue to improve intersections and roadways to mitigate congestion.4)Work with RTD and public sector on passenger rail through Thornton.5)Ensure a stable tax revenue to provide the services people need in Thornton. We have an opportunity along I-25 and E-470.6) Common sense water policy.7) And,the most important, ensuring every neighborhood is safe and clean. Our citizens deserve nothing less.
