Candidate Profile: Kim Jetton
Contributed by: Kim Jetton on 9/21/2007

My name: Kim Jetton

Age: 37

My family: I am married to Doyle and we have a 9-year-old son Austin.

What I do: I'm a teacher at Holy Trinity and Guardian Angels Schools.

My favorite place in town to hang out: I like to hang out at home with my
family and friends. I also enjoy La Paloma Restaurant, Heaven Dragon and Famous Daves.

What I like most about living here: I really enjoy living in Thornton - it has a diverse
population and has great schools. There is so much potential in our city with future development of parks and recreation opportunities, business development and future housing communities, and I look forward to being a part of this.

My interests and hobbies: I enjoy participating in local
community and government affairs. My long history of volunteerism and
supporting non-profit associations has cultivated a strong passion for
public service. In my free time, I enjoy reading, skiing, hiking, scuba diving and
spending time with family/friends.

What is my favorite thing to cook: My white-sauce lasagna is a culinary
delight.

People who inspired me (and how): My father is a successful small business
owner who always gives back to the community through volunteerism and
sponsorship. Both of my parents instilled in us the values of family, faith,
hard work, compassion, respect and responsible community stewardship. I owe
my passion for public service to the wonderful example my parents set for me
through my childhood.

How I have contributed to the community: I served in the Colorado National
Guard 147th CSH, Keep Thornton Beautiful Board, Volunteer Victim Advocate
for Thornton Police Department, Thornton Comprehensive Plan Committee,
Northglenn/Thornton Rotary, MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce, MetroNorth
Leadership Institute, Thornton Leadership Institute, Junior League of
Denver, President of Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation. I am also
an active member of my church and son's school.

But my biggest contribution is my son, who is now learning the value of
volunteering and helping others every day.

What are the biggest issues facing your city now: Economic development is
the top priority. We need more good paying jobs close to home and we need
more sales tax revenue to fund city services like public safety, snow
removal, road repairs, parks, trails and recreation centers.
