Candidate Profile: Rick Reeser
Contributed by: Rick Reeser on 10/10/2007

Name: Richard M. "Rick" Reeser

Family: married to Jeannie (Carrillo) Reeser, of Thornton, at Holy Cross Church in 1968. Our two children, Philip and Jennifer, were raised here in Thornton, attended and graduated from District 12 schools. Jeannie is a former State Representative [H.D. #32]; she represented south, or original Thornton and Commerce City for 14 years.

What I do: Certified Public Accountant, providing accounting and tax services to local businesses and individuals in northern suburbs for over 30 years; semi-retired.

Favorite place to hang out: American Legion Post 22, with friends and fellow veterans from Thornton and Northglenn area.
What I like about living here: America - the Principles of Freedom; Colorado - low humidity, mild winters (usually!) natural beauty of our environment.

My interests: Research and comment on the Principles, and abuses, of Laws - God's versus Man's - by government and leaders. (a political "junkie"?)
Favorite things to cook: Barbeque, smoker, for turkey, standing rib roast, etc.

People who inspired me (and how): President Ronald Reagan, he believed in and led, based on our Founding Principles; (I met him in January, 1966, before he entered Calif. Governor's race).
Colorado Governor Dick Lamm, was always passionately committed to his ideas and goals, even when people did not agree with his views.
Thornton Mayor Tom Carrillo, (1971-74) he instilled long range vision and planning, about what Thornton could become.

How have I contributed to the community: 8 years on Thornton City Council (1980-88) and Career Service Board (1978-79); [see accompanying 'flyer' for details] Treasurer for Santa Claus Workshop (1981-present) to find and distribute toys, gifts for children; co-founded and served 10 years on ACCESS Housing Board, (1982-92) providing shelter and assistance to area homeless families; sponsor and work with Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, through Thornton Kiwanis Club (1975-95), now through American Legion Post 22; accounting assistance to other non-profit community based organizations.

What are biggest issues facing Thornton: [1.] Implement method to finance assets needed to bring Northern Water Project home to Thornton, [2.] Intensify efforts to secure growing industrial and commercial employment base, [3.] maintain stability and professional direction of City.
