Thornton roadways re-open after flooding

Three of four segments of Thornton roadways have re-opened after heavy rains and flooding on Wednesday forced City crews to shut them down. Roadways that have reopened include:

· 128th Avenue between Quebec Street and Riverdale Road

· Riverdale Road between Yosemite Road and 124th Avenue

· Riverdale Road between McKay and 112th Avenue

Holly Street remains closed between Holly Circle and 123rd Avenue as a result of damage to the roadway. Part of the road base has been washed out from underneath Holly Street and the road is no longer stable. Southbound motorists are asked to use 128th Avenue west to Colorado Boulevard then south to 120th Avenue east to Holly Street. The northbound detour is 120th Avenue west to Colorado Boulevard to 128th Avenue then east to Holly Street. At this time the City anticipates the roadway will not open until late next week (weather permitting).

City crews will be out throughout the City today (Thursday, Aug. 7) cleaning up debris from around drainages, streets and shoulders that were also impacted by yesterday's heavy rains.
