Many of you likely read the
Rocky Mountain News' coverage of the 30 year anniversary of the Big Thompson Flood this past Monday. That was a day of devastation here in Colorado and is our deadliest natural disaster. Of course, we also have our snowstorms...like the March 2003 dumping that is Colorado's most expensive disaster. Have you ever given thought to what you'd do if it happened again? Are you ready?
Play the "what if" game (I know we all do it). What if you lived on that stretch of road in Deckers that was washed away last month? What would you have done? What if you were caught out on the golf course during the light show and downpour earlier this week? What would you have done? What if the city where you live received nearly three feet of snow and shut down your power and services? What would you do?
Are you ready to find out some answers?!?
If you would like to get a better understanding of what natural disasters could actually hit us here in the Denver metro area or you want a better understanding of our Health Department and First Responders, then CERT is the class for you. CERT stands for Citizen Emergency Response Training and the Adams CERT Training is starting up again.
These courses are filled with information and hands-on training. We are sure you will enjoy learning about how to better prepare yourself and also more information on what our First Responders do and what they are ready for. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a hands on training exercise to test what you've learned on the final day of class.
There is no charge to attend the Adams CERT courses, but we do ask that you make the commitment to attend all classes to ensure we can get the information out to as many people as are interested (and we have room for).
This session is being hosted by the city of Brighton through their Office of Emergency Management, Police Department and the Greater Brighton Fire District at 3401East Bromley Lane (Brighton Police Department)and is open to the public. The class is held on four consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. and the final classes are the weekend of Sept. 30 / Oct. 1 (both days) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
