Become a Thornton Leader
Contributed by: Heather Lammers, City of Thornton on 2/14/2006

Thornton -- The Thornton Leadership Institute is accepting applications from city residents who want to learn more about the city and their community.

Thornton’s Leadership Institute helps attendees build leadership skills and develop an understanding of how the City of Thornton plans for, and provides services to, its residents and businesses. The institute is free and presented in a series of six sessions of three hours each.

The next institute is scheduled for Wednesday evenings from April 19 - May 31, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. (Wednesday, May 10 excluded). Application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31.

The sessions provide applicants with opportunities to learn through lively, hands-on activities. Participants earn a Thornton Leadership Certificate upon satisfactory completion of the Institute objectives, which include:

* Developing knowledge and skills to help participants become effective community leaders.
* Developing an understanding of city organization, policymaking and provision of services.
* Building personalized “tool kits” of strategies to assist them in addressing community issues.
* Learning about city life by touring facilities such as the Fire and Police Departments.

For more information on the Thornton Leadership Institute, or for an application via e-mail, please contact the City of Thornton City Manager’s Office at 303-538-7200, or stop by City Hall located at 9500 Civic Center Drive to pick up an application.  The application can also be downloaded from the City's Web site at http://cityofthornton.net/.
