Just plain lax-a-daisical

COUNCIL
JUST PLAIN LAX

What is the problem with the members of this Northglenn City Council? Do you not want to work, or just plain lax-a-daisical attitude?

You have reduced your meetings without reduction in salary. What is the Council getting paid for but to create and attend meetings.

This Council is not doing its job and should be replaced. It has shown no leadership and is even willing to pass on its responsibility. Let us make some changes come November.

I would like to see the nearly defunct Citizens Affairs Board to embolden itself and schedule a town hall meeting on a Thursday study session you were going to cancel anyways, because there are lots of issues that Council refuses to address. And folks want to address them.

This will provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions or express concerns to the City Council and staff. I think everyone in Northglenn will take advantage of such opportunity to let Northglenn know what our concerns are and what changes we would like to make.

You ran on the promise that you have a clue to the citizen wants and needs and that you can make tough decisions.

I have heard statements that if they "don't like it then move out." It doesn't matter to him if someone has lived here all their adult lives.Trying to belittle, at every opportunity. Constant criticism is unjustified.

LIBERAL VIEW AN INSULT

The liberal view is an insult to working Northglenners and is detrimental to the people of our city. Like many liberals, they are free from oversight and accountability.

It really burns me. The liberals are now so "power-drunk", under the cover of responding to a crisis, they have created the greatest debt in our history. This country was built on strong values held by hard working Americans, not government spending supported by bureaucrats.

They are leading us down a dangerous path which will lead to more government intrusion into our lives, less security from criminal threats, and taxing more of our money.

Now is the time to hold our elected officials "feet-to-the-fire." We will tell you what we want and do not want. Politicians only will respond to 2 things: 1) Money & 2) Votes.

"CRIME AT OUR VERY DOORSTEP"

The criminal elements have brains, they have money, they have genius for escaping detection.

It has been as long as policemen themselves know that many cases will never see the docket. There is no sincerity of any effort to bring criminals to judge.

Progress is being made, but the good can never be attained until PUBLIC sentiment is clearly behind efforts to clean house. The problem is local. It is at our very doorstep.

There has never been a greater need for the development of a strong local leadership. We cannot overlook the influence of the home, education, and the church in developing sentiment against crime.

There must be a return to the standard of ethics and codes of decency which respectable CITIZENS have always cherished but which has been allowed to disintegrate into debauchery.

Crime is the unmistakable sign of an irreligious and amoral people.

"COMMUNITY POLICING"

The whole concept of community policing is a partnership between law enforcement and the local community and getting familiar faces on both sides. It builds trust, keeps officers in neighborhoods and allows them to become more familiar with the type of crime specific to that neighborhood. This is what Northglenn needs.

TIGHTEN VEHICLE IDLE TIMES

In regards to cutting the budget, Northglenn employees could try to save fuel and lower vehicle air emissions under "idle-reduction" policies intended to cut the amount of time a vehicle sits with its engine running.

We need to take "proactive steps" to save fuel. It really is based on Common Sense.

Exemptions might include emergency vehicles while in an EMERGENCY capacity; running heaters and defrosters during extreme temperatures, or while traffic is stopped at the direction of a law enforcement official.

An "idle-time" policy would offer a logical approach for the city to save money.

By applying sustainable principles in planning and policy making, let us look to the FUTURE.

Let us, in the future reuse our concrete and asphalt from torn-up streets for road base and temporary paving materials.

Let us use LED (Light emitting diodes) in our street lamps and signal lights for an 82% energy savings.

Let us install energy efficient windows in our public buildings, and our residences.

Let us replace "Old" fluorescent lighting with efficient bulbs and electronic ballasts.

Let us operate compost sites. The city will grind brush and stumps and SELL the materials for mulch and / or fuel.

Let us treat our sludge to be free of pathogens and be available for fertilizer to be mixed with our compost for high quality topsoil.

Let us use electronic thermostats.

Let us be at the Comprehensive Planning Commission discussions to offer feedback and suggestions.

These are exciting times in Northglenn. The City is planning a meeting to get input on a Comprehensive Zoning Plan. I encourage all citizens to review the plan and come to offer constructive input. The plan is far-reaching and will affect ALL CITIZENS in one way or another. Copies of the plan are available for review at the City Hall. The plan is detailed and lengthy. It will require thought on what is proposed. Citizens are asked to participate in open discussions.

What happens in our City is up to each of us. Let us be proactive. Let us not disappoint ourselves.

TOUR AREA PLANTS

When I was on the Planning Commission we would tour local industrial businesses. A tour of area plants would be intended to let area residents inside buildings that employ hundreds, but are seldom seen. Manufacturing work isn't dirty, dark and dangerous. Tours would be used to develop a work force. People should be encouraged that the economy isn't as bad as they think it is.

Students could get EXTRA-CREDIT on plant tours.
