Stop in the Name of Love
Contributed by: Alicia Osborn on 7/25/2008

I suspect there are many people who, like myself, have a not- so-secret fantasy to sing and perform on stage. Lacking the necessary vocal skills to be a gifted and talented performer, I, like most others, must usually confine my musical prowess to singing along with the radio. Over the years, I have attended numerous memorable concerts at various venues around the globe but, in all honesty, my favorite concert memory comes from a free concert.. My family and I always enjoy the numerous free concerts Northglenn and Thornton sponsor throughout the summer months. Several years ago, in honor of the newly revamped Northglenn Marketplace, Mary Wilson of the Supremes headlined at a free concert at E. B. Raines park in Northglenn. Imagine my excitement when Ms. Wilson invited moms and kids to share the stage with her and sing along to Stop in the Name of Love! Not only had I already taught my then 5 year old daughter all the words to that song but we knew all the accompanying moves to go with it! I grabbed her little hand and hauled her to the front of the stage before she had a chance to protest. Singing and performing on stage in front of a real audience! What a thrill! It's as close as I'll ever come to living my fantasy. And I got to share the moment with my daughter. Unforgettable!
