Priceless! - Las Vegas story
Contributed by: Kara Ortega on 11/15/2007

On October 28, 2006, my husband Matt and I tied the knot at the Hollywood Wedding Chapel in Vegas. I had called a few weeks before for reservations so Elvis could marry us. The conversation with the woman who ran the place started it all!

She had to call Kent (Elvis) and ask if he was available, meanwhile, I'm still on the phone and could hear her and the wedding going on in the background and I couldn't help but start giggling. When I said I'd call back after checking out a few more chapels, she began negotiating. I didn't know weddings were negotiable, but she shaved about $100 off our price, so it worked out well.

Six of us arrived in Vegas on the 28th at 9 a.m. We rented a mini-van and tore out of the parking lot. We arrived at the Palace Station and SUPRISE! My grandparents had secretly driven from Denver to attend our wedding. After a few beers, we were ready to get hitched. I had the giggles from the time we all piled into the mini-van.

Let the laughing begin!

At the chapel, we had to wait for Elvis because he was stuck in traffic. The woman taking our pictures, bless her heart, hardly spoke English and was getting mad because I kept giggling.

I told her I was just having so much fun! Then, the other couples started coming in. A young couple who wanted to get married completely naked (they were told no), a woman in her long white dress and future husband in his "pimp" suit and then a nice, normal couple (like ourselves) waiting for their friends.

All together, the actual Minister took about 30 seconds (no lie) to marry us. The lady in the front yelled, "rolling" and the video taping began. Then, my brother walked me down the isle where Elvis serenaded Matt and I with "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You", "Love Me Tender" "Viva Las Vegas" and some vows that I literally laughed the entire way through.

I cried because I was laughing so hard.

Pictures were snapped throughout the 15 minutes of Elvis singing. Some of us, some of him with us and some of just him!

All the pictures turned out amazing because the smiles on our faces were genuine! Even if it was from giggling.
We topped a great day off with In-n-Out Burger, more beer and grandpa doing his best Elvis impersonation down the hall at the casino. At about 9pm, we headed back to the airport to go home. That's right, we were onlythere for about 12 hours! It was so much fun and my cheeks hurt every time I watch the video!

Plane tickets: $236
Beer, In-n-Out Burger, Chapel and Elvis: $250
Having the funniest wedding video to share with our children and friends: PRICELESS!
