Because the Rockies are there
Contributed by: Calvin Burrell on 8/30/2007

We deserve to watch the Rockies because....

1. We enjoy baseball and we love the Rockies. We root for the home team even when the Red Sox or Cubbies come to town, and especially when the Yankees are here!

2. This is about the only chance most of us will have to watch a game from one of the Coors' Field suites. You can be sure we'll tell others about the fine treatment the Rockies gave us. After all, spreading good news is our Job One!

3. Like the Rockies, we are team players. We play on God's team, serving people around the corner and around the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

4. Around the corner, we serve people in the north metro area. Back in June, for example, we helped distribute about 500 pounds of food and 1,500 pounds of clothing in a public giveaway especially for needy residents in the old section of Thornton.

5. Around the world, we publish and distribute Christian literature to readers in 85 different countries--most of it at no cost to the recipients. We are non-profit: we planned it that way, and that's the way it works out.

6. We're your long-term neighbors in Colorado. Our offices have been along the Front Range of the Rockies for 57 years, and we've never had a players strike. We're located fifteen miles due north of Coors Field and it takes twenty minutes to drive there, at posted speeds. We can be there early for an evening game without missing any of the work we enjoy here. Or if we come on Sunday, we won't be missing our church's worship and fellowship time either--that's on Saturday.

7. You've got room for twelve of us--exactly the number on our staff: With LeRoy, Hope, Calvin, Eddie, Keith, Whaid, Sherri, Linda, Rebecca, Allan, Bryan and Kyle, we've got a perfect match for this offer! We think that's more than coincidence, and there's a better answer than "luck."

8. Our staff-guy writing this is a fan who apparently brings good fortune to the team. He attended five games last season and one so far this season, and the Rockies won them all. With him there, the odds are it'll be a great game for the Rocks.

9. We have the same number of reasons for deserving to watch the Rockies as there are innings in a regulation ballgame. We intend to be there for the first pitch and stay till the last out, even extra innings if that's what it takes to get a W for the home team. If a walk-off hit wins it, we'll stay until the final run gets home. We've got nine reasons for nine innings, and you can count on a full game from us.

And that, sports fans, is 500 words!
