In the last 5-6 months the Thornton Junior Football League (TJFL) has been under vicious attacks from a very unhappy former coach. This person has claimed a lot of falsities from discrimination to miss appropriations of funds and other accusations.
Well the good citizens of Thornton need to know the results of a recent police probe caused by this individual proved there were no improprieties. This person is now attempting to bring another league to Thornton. This individual has strained the relationship between TJFL and the city of Thornton and the community. It is time for it to stop.
I played in TJFL in 1976-77 and have been with TJFL since 1993 as a coach then a board member then a Director. During this time I have seen the league double in size with the hard work of very dedicated volunteers. The league has fought hard to keep registration fees as low as possible this year will be our first increase since 2000 and we only increased the price from $70.00 to $75.00. We have and will continue to work with low income families to make sure every child has a chance to play. The TJFL also is the only league I have found that guarantees that every child get a starting position and plays that position every time it is on the field, giving them more playing time can only make them better players. We are here for the kids not the coaches EGOS. For the $75.00 players receive a helmet, shoulder pads, 7 piece pants pad set, a mouth piece, a jersey and this year they get colored pants. The jersey is theirs to keep. They play 8 games as long as the weather allows all 8. They practice and play all the games within the city of Thornton with a championship game at the end of the season. TJFL does not play outside leagues because it is to complicated to coordinate ages, weights and rule, as everyone thinks theirs are the best and no one is wrong or right, just different but believe me the winners of the Wayne Johnson Turkey Bowl are very happy being the champions of Thornton.
In the last few years the TJFL has been trying to find other ways to help in the community. For 2 years now we have donated a total of 40 turkey dinners to less fortunate families we also have purchased 3 Christmas trees at Thornton's Winter fest which were also given to less fortunate families.
No league can ever make everyone happy that would not be possible but we try and our 46 year record speaks for itself. Last year we had almost 1000 returning players and are expecting the same this year. Please don't be fooled by the vengeance of 1 man.
Our registrations will be beginning soon and check out our new improved website tjfl.org We hope to see you in the fall
Scott Bradley
