Tochtrop gives an update from Capitol
Contributed by: Lois Tochtrop on 4/6/2007

Things are moving along quickly as we approach the end of the 2007 session on May 9th. Discussions have become more heated and there is a much stronger show of partisanship as we review bills that are philosophically based. A bill to teach scientifically based sexual education is a good case in point.

I've introduced a bill that allows an injured employee to select his or her treating physician from an employer-provided list of at least two unaffiliated physicians and at least one health care network. This has been a very controversial issue in the past but has a good chance of passing this year with the Democrats in control.

The governor has signed my consumer protection bill requiring payday lenders to offer payment plans. The payment plan will give the consumer the option to pay off the loan in six equal installments without any fee for participation in the plan.

The State Capitol building will be open to all on the weekend of April 14th and 15th as part of the "Doors Open Denver" program. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm both days. Come down and enjoy the quilt show, take historical tours and find fun activities for the kids!

My final Town Meetings of this session will be held on April 21 at Ciancio's at Hyland Hills, 9650 Sheridan and on April 28th at the Margaret Carpenter Rec. Center. Both meetings begin at 10 am. Please plan to attend.

Senator Tochtrop represents Senate District 24, which includes parts of unincorporated Adams County, Thornton, Northglenn, and Federal Heights. She welcomes your feedback. Reach her at 303-866-4863 or at Lotochtrop@aol.com.
