Mayor Marty: Staying Busy
Contributed by: Marty Wisniewski on 9/24/2007

Mayor Marty has been keeping busy the past couple of weeks. Besides knocking on hundreds of doors, Marty has been involved in a number of events. Last Wednesday Marty attended the Western Convenience E-85 Fuel Opening at 9190 Huron St. In attendance were Governor Ritter's Biofuel Coalition, Colorado Corn Growers Association, employees from City of Thornton, and the Post Office because of their large fleet of vehicles that use E85 fuel. Pro Chrysler had cars and trucks on display that use E85. Having E85 fuel closely available to the citizens of Thornton is a huge success for the City. Mayor Marty has a passion for the environment and has previously encouraged the use of alternative fuels including E85 in the City of Thornton's vehicles.

In addition to the E85 opening last week, Mayor Marty also reached out to the Senior community. Marty held a Meet-and-Greet at the Alpine Living Center which was a success. Marty spoke with about 20 seniors about his ideas for Thornton and the seniors in Thornton and his listened to their concerns and suggestions.

This past Saturday Mayor Marty attended Kids Day America and presented a Proclamation to Kids Day America. Dr. Sean Primus sponsored the event. Kids Day America is a free event where children can learn about health, safety, and environmental awareness. Local officials and community leaders are usually in attendance. There were free dental exams and check ups for children. Both the Thornton Police Department and Fire Department also attended the event.

Marty also attended a wonderful neighborhood picnic at Lambertson Lakes. There was lots of good food and music. Many candidates were available for questions and Marty enjoyed the entire event. He spoke with several citizens and learned about what they liked about Thornton and what they would like to see. Marty ended the day on Saturday by saying "there is always so much going on in all the great communities of Thornton. I always have a great time and learn lots of new things, but boy am I tired".

Yesterday, Marty took a break and went to the Broncos game and enjoyed the evening with his family. And speaking of Broncos games, Marty will be at a Meet, Greet, and Watch the Game at J.R.'s Silver Bullet on October 7 th. The Silver Bullet is located in the Safeway shopping center at 120 th and Colorado Blvd. Everyone is invited to come meet Mayor Marty and share their concerns and suggestions with him. The event starts at 1:30pm. Come watch the game on big screen TVs, enjoy drink specials, and eat free food at halftime.
