DENVER -- The Colorado Region of Keller Williams Realty is a presenting sponsor of the Inaugural Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon on May 21.
As the race date nears, the company's real estate agents are busy preparing for the many roles that they will play.
In addition to having dozens of Keller Williams agents who will volunteer at the event, some have been training to participate in the Marathon as runners. One of those marathon runners is
John F. Johnston
, a Thornton resident who is affiliated with the company's Northern Colorado Market Center in Fort Collins.
"This will be my ninth marathon since I started running in 1996," explains Johnston, who recently turned 60. "I started running with my daughter when she was in college-first in 5k and 10k races and then progressed to marathons. I enjoy the challenge and the exhilarating feeling of accomplishment. It will be great to have so many friends, business associates and family members to cheer us on during the May 21 marathon."
Dubbed "America's Main Street Marathon," the 26.2-mile course starts at the Aurora Sports Park and travels along historic Colfax Avenue to City Park, where the Half-Marathon begins. The course then returns to Colfax and passes the State Capitol in Denver.
The finish line is located at the Colorado Mills Mall in Lakewood. The marathon is managed by the Colfax Marathon Partnership, a non-profit organization founded by the cities of Aurora, Denver and Lakewood.
"We share in the organizers' mission of having a high-caliber event that contributes to the redevelopment of the Colfax Avenue corridor, promotes health and fitness among youth and adults, and benefits local charitable organizations," says
Kate Metcalf
, an agent with Keller Williams' Downtown office who is coordinating the event for the real estate company.
The Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon, at coloradocolfaxmarathon.org, is expected to attract 6,000 participants, more than 30,000 spectators and 1,500 volunteers to support race participants. In addition to the full marathon, there will be a half-marathon, five-person relay teams, wheelchair marathon as well as an incentive-based program for youth.
With more than 60,000 agents and 550 franchised Market Centers in 45 states and provinces, Keller Williams Realty International is now America's fourth-largest and fastest-growing residential real estate company.
Keller Williams Realty franchised the Colorado Region in 1993 and has succeeded by creating a unique agent-focused model that builds partnerships between agents and local ownership through participation in a life-long, profit sharing program.
In Colorado, the company has 24 locations with more than 3,000 agents. In 2005, Keller Williams agents achieved more than $3.6 billion in sales volume. To learn more about Keller Williams, call Colorado Regional Director
