Local boys bound for the world championship
Contributed by: Fran Wasserman on 11/9/2006

Five young men from the North Denver Area are bound for Florida and Sports Illustrated's Kick It 3 v 3 World Championship Soccer Tournament, January 13-15, 2007.

Led by Captain Evan Wasserman, Mike Lombardi, Eric Caldwell, Nick Slagel, and Marc Lambert have some experience as champions in 3 v 3 soccer. Winners of the 2002 Rocky Mountain Regionals in the U17 Division, they went on to win the 2003 National Title in Orlando, FL. Now in college, they have returned to the field in the men's adult division.

After placing first in the Boulder Shootout, they returned to Vail in August for the 2006 Rocky Mountain Regionals to compete against teams from seven states. Undefeated through pool play, they won the Regional Tournament championship game by a score of 11-1, and will attempt to repeat as World Champions, this year against teams from 10 countries.

Somehow, they have managed to maintain their soccer skills and team unity while each pursuing their studies at CU, CSU, FRCC, orworking full time.Their only want is for some kind of uniform! The attached picture is the team photo in Vail with their Regional Championship trophies.

This nomination is submitted by their "Coach" and manager, Fran Wasserman.
