Attention Denver: You have been invaded.
I am now, and will always be, a Detroit fan. Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings, and even the Lions. They are my teams, and that won’t change just because my zip code is different. Sure, I’ll watch the Nuggets, I’ll root, root, root for the Broncos, and I’ll likely even catch a few Rockies games this summer. But make no mistake, I represent the “D”, and I am loyal to those teams.
You will never convince me that Terrell Davis was a better running back than Barry Sanders. To believe that you’d have to be insane or high. Barry was the greatest pure runner in the history of the NFL, and you’ll never convince me otherwise.
You will never convince me that Denver is a better sports town then Detroit. Sure, the Broncos (who make the playoffs on a regular basis) sell out every game, but so do the Lions, the worst team of the 2000s. Pistons > Nuggets. Red Wings > Avs. And here’s the scary one, Tigers > Rockies. This city has some intense sports fans, but if they had to spend any more than one season putting up with the Lions and Tigers, they would commit suicide. Detroit fans are loyal to their teams, no matter what.
You will never convince me that Anthony would have been a better pick than Darko. Anthony is a better player, no doubt about it. But he would have screwed up the chemistry of that team. He is selfish, immature and arrogant. That never would have flown with the Pistons. Now, there are many picks that would have been better than Milicic, but don’t bother trying to tell me Anthony was one of them.
For those of you thinking “Geez, what a doorknob”, don’t worry. I’ll write often on these Denver teams, and in most instances, I’ll even be cheering for them. More importantly, I’ll be fair and open. Sometimes I might even be semi-humorous. You can ask anybody that reads me on a regular basis, and they’ll tell you that’s how I "roll."
This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
