Nicki Axelson of Thornton, a senior at Denver Lutheran High School, was one of eight recipients of a $1000 college scholarship awarded by the Colorado High School Coaches Association at a luncheon held at the DTC Marriott on Sunday, March 25. The scholarship awards are sponsored by Gatorade.
Student-athletes are nominated by a coach. A selection committee then reviews the nominations to determine the winners of the awards. Nicki was nominated by her track coach, Mr.
Bill Stahl, and has gone to state in several events in track. She earned First Team All-Conference honors in volleyball and was named Second Team All-Conference in basketball for the Lady Lights, members of the 3A Metro League.
Nicki plans to attend Concordia University - Seward, Nebraska, and will play volleyball for the Bulldogs. Her field of study will be Sports Medicine and Training. Her parents are Danny Axelson of Stockton, Kansas, and Kerry and Kelly Martin of Thornton.
