Back in August you may have read about the Cornerstone Christian Academy Boys Soccer team being undefeated. Well, the regular season is over and they finished with an undefeated record of 9-0-1 in their conference! The bulldogs are heading to the Front Range Christian Athletic Association (FRCAA) Soccer Playoffs.
What you didn't hear back in August was the history of the team. Up until last year, the CCA boy's athletic teams had not been involved in any post-season playoffs. It wasn't because the teams didn't put forth effort, but unfortunately, their seasons ended before the playoffs.
Then, the Cinderella story began. With barely enough boys to make a team, first year coach Troy Boyer accepted the challenge to not only teach the boys how to play soccer, but also to train the boys how to play with character. The skeleton-size team took 1st place in their conference division, and was also recognized for their sportsmanship. Coach Troy and the CCA Bulldogs did something amazing last year, something that was totally unexpected; they brought home the first trophy won by the boy's soccer team.
After a winning season last year, soccer players were not hard to find for this year's roster. The challenge was to replace the strength of the seniors that made the team so strong last year. The 2007 soccer team has several first year players. Coach Troy, in many respects, was starting back at the basics. Opposing teams were geared up to play the Bulldogs this year. After all, facing the Division Champions can seem a little intimidating. The boys worked hard and their efforts have definitely paid off, the CCA Bulldogs are returning to the playoffs.
Friday night, October 26th under the lights at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the CCA Bulldogs will be playing in the first round of the playoffs. If all goes right for the Bulldogs, they will be playing in the Championship game on Saturday, October 27th, also at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Back to back champions? Right now, it's looking real good for the CCA Bulldogs!
