State Champions from Legacy

Seventeen Legacy students entered the Mullen High School gym Saturday May 13, 2006 not knowing that some of them would win state at the power-lifting meet. Seniors Chris Benson, Laura Ashmore, Amanda Lucero, and Larissa Hayes won 1 st place in their weight divisions at the Colorado Championship Power Lifting meet. During a power-lifting meet, there are three categories; bench press, squat, and dead lift, and you get 3 chances to perform the lift with the most amount of weight and the best form. Ashmore's final lifts were 110 lbs. on the bench press, 185 lbs. on squat and 225 lbs. on the dead lift; overall, Ashmore's final total weight was 520 lbs. Benson, a two time state champion, lifted 170 lbs. on bench press, 285 lbs. on squat and 340 lbs. on dead lift, he lifted 795 lbs. total. Legacy as a team won 2 nd place for the girls and 3 rd place for the guys.
