Care for the Caregiver (CFTC) is a non-profit organization that helps those who help others. Last year, CFTC raised more than $5,000, which provided funding for mental health relief to nurses and other caregivers who treated survivors of Hurricane Katrina. This year CFTC is focused on raising money to fund scholarships for nursing programs.
"It's important to fund scholarships for nursing education, to address the nation's critical nursing shortage," said
Annette Cannon, PhD, RN, President of CFTC. "RNs represent approximately 2.4 million healthcare professionals, making nursing the largest healthcare occupation in the U.S. We need to support nursing programs in order to stem the current nursing shortage trend, to ensure appropriate coverage for community-based healthcare services, and safe nursing practices during hospitalizations."
