Congratulations to the
Westminster Thunder Cats who have won their first soccer tournament.
The
Thunder Cats are a group of 7 and 8 year old girls from the surrounding Westminster area that come together and play soccer in the
City of Westminster's soccer program. A ferocious pride of young lioness, the
Thunder Cats roam the area looking for games of soccer to play.
Over the May 30-31st weekend the
Thunder Cats traveled from Westminster down to Castle Rock to take place in the Colorado Elite's
2
nd Annual Rock Cup tournament.The Rock Cup was a great opportunity for teams to come together and have fun playing soccer together. The tournament was also a festival that featured blow up rides, face painting, snow cones and food. It was a fun filled family outing.
The ThunderCats used great team play and soccer skills to win every game they played in the tournament. With victories of 3-1, 7-3 and 8-0 they set themselves up as the top seeded team heading into the final round.
They faced the
Colorado Elite Lightning in the Championship game. Both teams were ready to go after coming off of victories in their previous games.The Thunder Cats came out fast and scored 2 goals within the first few minutes.Ending the first half with a score of 3-0 theThunder Cats were all smiles as they headed into the second half and onto becoming champions with a finish of 6-1. The
Thunder Cats were awarded the
Rock Cup team trophy and t-shirts that read
Champions on the front and
We Rocked the Cup on the back.
The girls practiced and worked very hard leading up to this tournament and both of their coaches couldn't be more proud to see the girls hard work and dedication pay off.
