Thornton Students Compete in Taekwon-Do National's


Five Students from the Thornton Recreation Taekwon-Do Program competed in teh United States Taekwon-Do Federation (USTF) Nationals in Kelso, Washington. The Nationals were held June 25th and 26th, 2009. Of the five competitors from Thornton, four earned medals and two medaled twice.

Mathew Wilson; 3rd Dan Balck Belt assistant instructor ath the Thornton Recreation Center did most of the sparring training. Diana Wilson; 4th Dan Black Belt and Vivian Rigsby; 2nd Dan Black Belt, trained the students in patterns. Barney Montano; 5th Dan Black Belt and head instructor, trained the students the last few weeks before the competition.

Mathew Wilson; erd Dan took 3rd place in Adult Male Middleweiglht to Light Heavyweight Black Belt Sparring competition. Tanner Hornilng; 1st jDan took first palce in Junior Male Black Belt 91 lbs. to 139 lbs Black Belt Sparring and 3rd place in Junior Male Power Breaking. Keri Wernlein; 1st Dan took 2nd place in Junior Females Power Breaking and 3rd place in Specialty Breaking. Whelly Wernleiln; 7th Gup High Yellow Belt, took 2nd palce in Adult Female Middleweight color Belt Sparring. Akndrew Speilman 2nd Dan competed in Junior Male Heavyweight Sparring and Paterns competition but did not plaace. Competition was fierce the contact was light and all competitors maintained good sprotmanship throughout the competition.
