The BBQ season ends but the smoke doesn't stop
Contributed by: Denny Mildenberger on 10/25/2007

What a year, as the smoke slowly starts to settle. Over the Fence BBQ has had its best year ever as a competitive bbq team!!! The team consists of Denny and JulieMildenberger and their girls, Maggie and Molly. Lots of additional help has been provided by neighbors, family and friends.

We cooked at the following locations this year: Rio Rancho, NM, Manhattan, KS, Laramie and Worland, WY, Beaver Creek, Dillon, Durango, Frisco, Grand Junction, Lamar, Loveland and Pueblo, CO with plans on cooking at the Plant City Pig Jam in Plant City, FL.

Late September in Grand Junction, our 3rd season ended with Over the Fence BBQ being named Reserve Grand Champion in the race for the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association's Cup. We were 1st overall in brisket and chicken and 2nd overall in ribs and pork for the year!!! "The Cup" consisted of 9 contests along the Front Range. More contests will be added next year. We were also awarded with the "Iron Skillet" for cooking in all of the contests sponsoring "The Cup". In July, Over The Fence was crowned Grand Champions for the 1st time in Durango and a second time in Laramie, WY. A Reserve Grand Championship was earned in Worland, Wy. We were also made Colorado and Company for a TV spot and made headlines in Laramie and Grand Junctions newspapers. Lots of miles, lots of fun, lots of people and lots of good Q.

Our season was only to be topped with American Royal, the World Series of BBQ, in Kansas City back in early October. Over the Fence and Rib-It BBQ, teamed up to represent the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association in the Open Division. The combined team got an 11th place call in Ribs out of 491 teams!!! Two years ago Over the Fence was lucky enough to get the 2nd place call out of 550 in Ribs. Some very well-respected teams have competed at "The Royal" for years and have never got a call. We are grateful for being 2 for 2.

Is it time to slow down??? Nope, people still neeed to eat. Over the Fence BBQ will travel to Grand Junction for a BBQ cooking school on October 28th at...

Red Hot BBQs & Things, call 970-242-3200 if you need to go.

On November 3, we are also involved with the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association and have teamed up with the Care & Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to announce "Q'ing for a Cause". This event will be a kick-off for Care & Share's upcoming Holiday Food Drive Season. This unique charitable event provides competition quality barbecued meat to the food bank for distribution to those less fortunate.

**How you can help???We are seeking cookers, volunteers, materials and of course, monetary donations. Please contact Brad Hammond at 719-573-4273 or qingforacause@msn.com if you can help our cause or would like additional information.

It has been a busy season!!! In the off-season, we will have time for watching football and maybe even making tamales. We will probably order more books from Amazon and restock the spice cabinet, so we can play with flavors that make people smile. Happy smoking to all, good friends, good fun, good food, find it all at www. OvertheFenceBBQ.com!!!
