Take care of that mattress that takes care of you 6- 8 hours out of the day. Make sure it is getting even wear. Mattresses are furniture. They are expensive. Take care of your sleep system.
According to MrsFixit.com:
Step #1: Flip the mattress over about 1 times per month. Alternate 1 month flip side-side, the next top to bottom. The mattress will last longer.
Step #2: Freshen with baking soda. Sprinkle; leave for the day then vacuum before you make the bed. The baking soda eliminates any odors, the bed will be fresh.
Step #3: Put a protective cover sheeton your mattress. Vinyl cover best for kids.
Step #4: ACCIDENT! Rewet the area with a sponge; sprinkle some BORAX and rub it in. Let dry. Vacuum.

Choose a mattress that is finished on both sides so you can “rotate” and “flip” it just as you would your car tires. Every few months, turn it clockwise, or upside-down, so that body indentations are kept to a minimum. Be selective when choosing a pillow. When lying on your SIDE, your head and neck should remain level with your mid and lower spine. When lying on your BACK, your head and neck should remain level with your upper back and spine. In other words, your pillow should not be so thick, or thin, that it causes your head to be propped up or angled sharply away from your body. Go to a mattress outlet, with your partner, and try all sorts of sleep systems. There is spring-coil, foam, water, wave-less water, air or futon.
