Kidz Quiltz was started after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf area. My husband, Lyle was in MS for a week with a church group fromThe Worship Center @ Brighton. After returning home he told me about the devastation and showed me his pictures.
In the meantime, I met Leigh Chapman from Waveland Mississippi. She had survived in the attic with friends for 4 days, while the water came up as high as the ceiling and winds up to 165 miles an hour.
Leigh saw a small quilt I was making in my basement. She told me her 2 year old niece has lost everything. I sent my First Quilt to Leigh for her niece.Lyle saw the finished quilt and said "One is not enough; you need to make one for every kid in Waveland."
In November 2005 we started on our goal of 1,000 "Quilts for the Katrina Kids" in Waveland, Mississippi. Lyle and I spent Easter 2007 in Pearlington, MS delivering another 281 quilts to churches in the area. We took a total of 1037 quilts to the Waveland area for the kids.

Last week we sent 13 quilts to Holly, CO for the kids who lost their homes in the tornado. We are currently working with other people from Brighton to send 60 single bed quilts to Mexico by June

Our next project is 1,000 quilts for World Vision to take to kids in need.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

This is a volunteer operation and hundreds have worked on and donated quilts and materials in the past 18 months.

We are in a leased building in FortLupton and need $150,000 to pay off the building by October 1, 2007. Our lease will be up and it is for sale.

We have 2,400 square foot sewing room in FortLupton with 7 sewing machines, work tables, cutting table and plenty of room for groups to work on quilts. (It works better than my basement.) We will continue to quilting, however; we need to stay in the building and get pubic support for the project.

We can use any volunteers to work on quilts 2 to 4 hours a week, to quilt here or at their homes.

These quilts are two pieces of material, with 4 oz. batting and tie tacked.

Babies are 36" x 42" and large is 44" x 60".

Donations can be made to Kidz Quiltz Inc. Our Tax Exempt Status with IRS is pending.

OUR NEW GOAL IS 1,000,000 QUILTS TO NEEDY KIDS WORLD WIDE
