Police remind you to keep pets inside during storm
Contributed by: Stephanie Topkoff on 12/20/2006

The Westminster Police Department Animal Management office would like to ask media outlets to assist them in reminding the public that it is too cold to leave any animal outside. Even outdoor shelters are not adequate right now, unless they are heated and insulated.

We have already rescued three dogs in Westminster this morningthat were left unattended in improper shelters. If they were not found, the result could have been deadly for these animals.

We are also asking the public to call their local law enforcement agency if they witness any animal left outside for extended periods of time without adequate shelter.

As a reminder, if you are leaving your animals outside in a proper shelter, please check their food and water frequently to make sure it has not frozen over.

Stephanie Topkoff is an investigator for the Westminster Police Department.
