There is an art to creating a meaningful and dynamic blog. You start off with an idea, perhaps it is a subject about which you feel passionate and you want to express your own personal opinion about it. Before you begin to get emotional and start blurting out random words trying to express yourself, stop! Consider the structure and format of your opinion and argument. Begin with building a a sturdy framework to enclose your masterpiece. How, you may ask do I do that!
Perhaps the first consideration is a title for your piece. The title needs to attract attention amongst all the millions of other blogs out their, so you can employ your dictionary and use some creative ability maybe with a 'play on words.' For example; a blog on your passion for dalmations might be called 'Spots in Front of my Eyes'! Or, a blog on school-bullying could be entitled 'Smash and Play.' It's a good idea to look at the titles of books in your local library or DVD's in the video store to get an idea just how important a title has to be to make a sale.
The second consideration is the format. The professor boffins at university would say 'employ some dialectical analysis' meaning 'thesis, antithesis and synthesis, which for us mere mortals is translated as an opening argument (which should be the first paragraph), the discussion of all the known details and objections in the second paragraph and then the third paragraph which should present your conclusion and findings. This three paragraph format is the most basic and effective form of composition. It is also usual to somehow link the last sentence of each paragraph with the first of the next to give a sense of continuity.
Yes, I'm onto the fourth paragraph here but this is for a good reason. It is also important to be free and inspired, let yourself flow off the edges now and again. This shows a freshness and vitality that is hard to capture whilst you are concentrating hard to make sense of your argument. Lastly you should try to incorporate what poets call the 'epiphany.' This is a type of revelation or peculiar insight into a subject that gives your reader the 'wow' factor, something that they may never have imagined or thought of before. The epiphany in the example I gave above with 'school-bullying' might be; "And what psychological or physical damage are school bullies doing to themselves?"
Lastly, always spellcheck your writing or use a dictionary. Try not to use or repeat the same words too much, you can use a thesaurus (which is like a dictionary but will give similar meaning words for the same term). Keep your sentences short and sharp; no extended waffling. Finally it is a good idea to keep your word count between 500 to 800 words per blog. More than this will lead your reader to boredom and they will not finish the story, less and they may not take it seriously.
Good luck and happy blogging.
