HubCap: Your year in review
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 12/4/2006

Many times in the year of our lord 2006, we have looked south to Lone Tree, to Karin Malchow, for inspiration. As the end of the year draws near, I find this week to be no exception.

Karin's most recent blog entry, " Our year in review, just for you," is, quite simply, a great idea. She's typed up what my mother usually calls "The Family Christmas Letter," and posted it on her blog. I think we should all join her, for two reasons:

1. You can kill two birds with one stone and get that year-end holiday letter typed up. Once it's on YourHub.com, you can just cut and paste it into a Word file and mail it out to friends and family.

2. We'd really like to read it.

If enough of us do the "Year in review," I'll collect the links before Dec. 31 and put them all in a blog entry.

Here's mine:

I didn't get a haircut in 2006. I did get some new pants, though.

My old beater of a "meth car," a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am GT, was sent to the car graveyard by a guy who rammed into me in Cherry Creek. I got my very first station wagon to replace it: A 1996 Subaru Outback Impreza.

I ran a marathon.

YourHub.com moved to a new building right across from Civic Center Park in Denver, and I moved with it.

I started this blog, and this list. I met many of the people on the list.

I got a bike.

I ran in the Denver Gorilla Run.

My friend Dave got married.

I ate approximately 15 Big City potato burritos.

I got an iPod and then ate up about a third of my computer's memory by loading 1,000-some albums onto it.

I hiked approximately 200 miles and biked probably 1,000. I saw the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, a bunch of red-rock desert places in Utah, and the tops of several mountains in Colorado.

I learned to snowboard and climb rocks. I fell many times doing both, and learned that falling while snowboarding is much bumpier, but falling while climbing is much scarier.

I drank a lot of coffee and ate a lot of chocolate and a lot of Liks ice cream.

The St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. I had nothing to do with them winning it, but my dad's a big Cardinals fan, and I was happy for him.

I wish I had time for a few more things, but wouldn't trade any of the things I did for anything else. Besides work, anyway. I'd trade some work hours for something else.
