Orwellian language is language that means the opposite of what it says, and is at present the preferred language of the conservatives. Here is a list of their terms and what they really mean.
No Child Left Behind = Get rid of public schools.
The conservatives believe that all children should be required to learn the Christian Bible regardless faith. The only way that will ever happen is if the public school system fails and the money is used for a voucher system that pays for private schools. So they set standards for public schools so high that most will fail in the long run. One of the requirements is that schools must always show an improvement from the last year. How can a school do this for every year? There has to come a point where they can't get better.
Clear Skies = Get rid of emission standards.
Emission standards cost big business money, and since they don't care about the environment emission standards must go. But they know most of the public would object so they call it "Clear Skies."
Healthy Forests = Clear cut Forests
It costs big logging businesses more money to cut forests in a wise and protective way. So just prevent forest fires by cutting down all the trees and call it a "Healthy Forest" initiative.
Net Neutrality = Give control of the internet to big business.
If business gets control of the Internet they will make billions and you and I will pay the bill. If this happens in the end the poor will be left out. This is OK from the conservative point of view because they idealize the rich, and believe they deserve more for all their "hard work". The poor are poor because they are "lazy." Ever work in fast food?
Family Values = Males are superior to woman and children.
The conservatives believe in the 18th century idea that the father is the boss and moral authority of the family and what father says goes. The wife then is to be subservient to him. This is opposite to the more common view today in which both parents are equal partners, and equally responsible for child rearing.
Right to Life = Males have control of reproductive rights.
This 18th century idea is so out of step today that the conservatives had to cloak it under the guise of abortion. If they were truly against abortion they would be making sure that all sexually active teens were on birth control to assure that an abortion didn't occur, but their only concern is there that women will have sex out of wedlock, which is more abhorrent than abortion. Proof that this is true comes from the new vaccine that prevents cervical cancer. In order for the vaccine to work it must be given to very young girls before they have sex. The conservatives tried to block the vaccine because they said "the fear of cervical cancer is a deterrent to teens having sex." (How many teens even know what cervical cancer is?) In other words conservatives would rather see a woman get cervical cancer and die than to have sex outside of marriage. There are, of course, lots of women who genuinely abhor abortion, but don't realize they are being used by the conservative male agenda. I abhor abortion, but I sure don't want to return to the days of back alley abortions with coat hangers. This is acceptable however to the male conservative. Any woman who has sex outside of marriage and then has a back alley abortion deserves what she gets.

It is blogs like this that create animosity between citizens. I have many friends on both sides of the isle and would defend them to the end. I may not always agree with them but I do support their right to disagree with me. After reading Mr. Turners Blog I get the feeling that anyone who disagrees with him is to be condemded. It appears to be his way or the highway. Sorry, I respect your right to disagree with me but get your data right.
